Beginners Guide to Nature Journalling
1. Relax and have fun. There's no wrong way to journal.
Did lighting strike nearby and you wan to document the effects in the surrounding area? Are you seeking for inspiration for poetry or a fictional short story? Wanting to build a deep long lasting connection to the outdoors, or enhance your connection with the natural world? The benefits of nature journalling don't have to be purely scientific, it's your journal. Whether it be a collection of observations, poetic snippets, fanciful doodles of the birds & animals you see, or simply a calming source of personal joy. You can make it whatever you want it to be.
2. Get something to write in, paper or digital. Even if your vantage point is from a window, nature journalling is your time to observe, take inventory, look for patterns, record your sensory awareness, and appreciate nature. Whatever your preferred tool for taking notes, it's recommended that it be dedicate to the task. such as a single paper notepad solely used for nature journalling or an ipad file/folder focused only on your nature notes.
3. Save the Date. Start each entry with the date. Nature journalling is a simple & effective tool to help improve observation skills but consistently marking the date will allow you look back accurately and see the big picture.
4. Add drawings. Never mind skill. Draw maps, doodle animals, sketch birds, trace flowers, make leaf rubbings. Make it as colorful as you want!
